## What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It has two sides. The technical side makes sure search engines can read the site: speed, correct titles, a sitemap and redirects. The content side makes sure your site clearly answers what your customer is searching for.

Here is an everyday case. You offer industrial cleaning in Izmir, and a customer searches for it. If your site has no clear page about that service, Google struggles to match you to the search. If the page exists, loads fast and answers the question, your chances go up.

## Why does it matter?

People searching already know what they need. If they do not find you, they find a competitor. SEO is never a one-off, but getting the technical base right at the start is easier than fixing it later. We set up the basics on every site, as described on our [web design](/en/services/web-design) page. We list the technical basics in [what makes a website SEO-friendly](/en/blog/seo-friendly-website).

## Frequently asked questions

### How long does SEO take to work?

Usually months. A new site takes longer to gain ground than an established one that is updated regularly. Nobody can guarantee a given ranking by a given date.

### Can I do SEO myself?

You can handle the basics. Writing a clear page for each service, setting titles correctly and connecting Google Search Console cost nothing. Technical work such as speed and redirects usually needs a developer.

### What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the groundwork that lets search engines find, read and understand your site. Speed, a sitemap, correct redirects, canonical URLs and structured data are all part of it.

### Do you lose SEO when you redesign a site?

You do if old addresses are not redirected. Before launch, list the old URLs and point each to its new page with a 301 redirect. That keeps old links and rankings.
