# E-invoice

> In Turkey, an e-invoice (e-fatura) is an invoice issued, sent and stored electronically in the format set by the Revenue Administration. It is used between two companies registered in the system. For recipients who are not registered, an e-archive invoice is issued instead.

## What is an e-invoice?

An e-invoice is the legally valid electronic version of a paper invoice. In Turkey it follows a standard format set by the Revenue Administration (GİB) and is delivered through the system. If both sender and recipient are registered, an e-invoice is used. If the recipient is not, for example a consumer, an e-archive invoice is issued. The thresholds that decide who must join can change, so check GİB announcements and ask your accountant.

Here is an everyday case. An order arrives on your website. Without an integration, someone opens the order, types the details into invoicing software and issues the invoice. With an integration, the invoice data goes to your e-invoice provider automatically once the order is approved, and the invoice reaches the customer.

## Why does it matter?

Manual invoicing takes longer and risks more errors as orders grow. Connecting your store or internal system to your provider automates it. See our [integrations](/en/services/integrations) service. Invoices for unregistered recipients are explained under [e-archive invoice](/en/glossary/e-archive-invoice).

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between an e-invoice and an e-archive invoice?

The recipient. If the recipient is registered in the e-invoice system, you issue an e-invoice. If not, you issue an e-archive invoice. Both are created and stored electronically.

### Is e-invoicing mandatory in Turkey?

It is mandatory for companies above certain revenue and sector thresholds. The thresholds change over time, so follow GİB announcements. Ask your accountant about your own company.

### What is an e-invoice integrator?

An authorised provider that formats your invoices to the GİB standard and delivers them. Your website or internal system connects to the integrator's API, and the invoice goes on from there.
